Crafty Friday

Happy Friday everyone.
Another friday another craft.
I love this one, it was created by Sweet Paul's crafter Elise Dee for the fall issue.
Its all make of felt and leather, looks so cool.

Stacked Leather & Wool Mushroom

You need:
-Leather scraps
-Felt or boiled wool
-Sharpie marker (fine tip)
-Hot glue gun
-Scissors

1. Cut about 20-25 quarter sized circles, alternating leather and felt.
2. Using the hot glue gun, glue the circles to create a stack. This will form the stem of your mushroom.
3. Using a sharpie, draw the shape of your mushroom cap on a piece of leather. This will be the largest part of the mushroom. 
4. Cut the leather.
5. Use the leather piece as a template and trace the shape onto a piece of felt.
6. Cut the felt very slightly smaller than the template.
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6, alternating between felt and leather.
8. As you cut your leather and wool, it helps to number the pieces to keep track of their order.
9. Once the pieces become too small to cut, assemble them by stacking and hot gluing all of your mushroom cap pieces from largest to smallest. (Use only a dot or two of hot glue toward the center of the mushroom, keeping the edges unglued)
10. After you have assembled the cap, glue the stem to the underside of the mushroom cap.

Description: Spice dish (4 QTY). These sea blue porcelain dishes are great for spices, hors d’oeuvre, rings, paper clips, bobby pins... Each dish is slip cast and carefully pinched on the edge, each one of them is unique but sits well along others.

Recipe Monday....

Its pumpkin season, just a reminder if you forgot.
Im not the biggest pumpkin fan, but somehow I really enjoy a good pumpkin soup.
This recipe comes from the fall issue's My happy Dish winner Ewa Ostoja-Helczynska.
Its creamy, sweet and I love the addition of the chanterelles.
Enjoy!

Pumpkin Soup with Chanterelles
Serves 4

3 cloves garlic
2 shallots
2 Lb pumpkin flesh (without grains and filaments)
3 tablespoon olive oil
2 cups vegetable stock
1/2 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon Thyme
Salt and pepper
1 teaspoon chopped parsley
a pinch of grated nutmeg
20 chanterelles, cleaned and halved
fresh thyme
1 tablespoon olive oil

Chop the garlic and shallots.
Fry in a tablespoon of olive oil.
Add the Pumpkin cut into large dice and cover with stock. 
Cook for about 20 min.
Add the herbs and spices.
Once the pumpkin is soft, add to a blander and whizz until smoothe.
Pass through a colander.
Pour back into the pot and add cream.
Bring to a boil.
Saute the chanterelles and thyme in the olive oil.
Divide them in four bowls.
Fill each bowl with hot soup.

Crafty Friday

You know there are some mushrooms out there that you should not eat.
These fall under that category.
They are simply made of felted wool.
Looks complicated, but super easy to make and so much fun.

Felted Mushrooms

You need:
Wool for felting in a few different colors
washing up detergent
boiling water
thin metal wire
hot glue gun

1.Start with the stems.
2.Twist together wool like a sausage, it will shrink a lot.
3.Add a little soap and over the sink add a little water.
4.Start to gently tap on the wool, work it gently together.
5.Once its getting into shape pour boiling water over it and then cold water.This will make the wool shrink.
6. work it until you have a long stem. Once its dry, cut them up into smaller stems.
7.Insert a wire in each stem.
Tops:
1.Layer the wool into a mushroom top shape.
2.Add a little soap and over the sink add a little water.
3.Start to gently tap on the wool, work it gently together.
4.Once its getting into shape pour boiling water over it and then cold water.This will make the wool shrink.
5.Dry and hot glue to the stem.

Crafty Friday

City Lights
Make your own glowing skyline at home.

You need:
Printouts of buildings on craft paper
scissors
exacto
tape
tall votive
tea candle

Start by cutting out your building, remember to leave a flap on each side where you glue them together.
Using an exacto cut out a few windows.
Tape the two flaps together.
Place over a tall votive with a tea candle.
Its important that the votive is almost as tall as the building, for safety.
